Upright Solutions is a specialist company providing focused and ethical Internet marketing services to drive up the profits of its clients businesses. Started in 2007 by Hull University graduate, Chris Coney, the company was built on the knowledge and success Chris had achieved during the 2 years in which he worked for the world’s largest Internet consultancy company.

It didn’t take long for it to become apparent that the ‘one stop shop’ often spreads the attention of an organisation too thinly, resulting in lesser expertise being applied to each element, thereby negatively impacting results.

Upright Solutions was founded to provide specialist Internet marketing services while fulfilling web design and associated requirements through strategic alliances with specialists in those areas. This created an environment in which a client company would have all their requirements covered without us trying to provide a service in which we were not expert in, this would have just lead to poor service in that area.

A Company with a Personality

Chris wanted to found a company that took on the traits of his personality that had attracted success in the past.

This meant creating a company that:

  • Is Honest
  • Is Straight talking
  • Is Non-technical
  • Stays Business focused
  • Is Easy to deal with
  • Applies the Platinum Rule

A Company That Is Honest

Honest is easy. When you can do something say you can and when you can’t do something say you can’t. Is it’s so easy then why don’t more companies do it? Well because it’s easy not too. And sometimes being dishonest makes more money in the short term (world financial crisis anyone?).

A Company That Is Straight Talking

Straight talking means being realistic and sometimes brutally honest even if it’s no what you want to hear.

Telling some clients that approach us that we can’t help them is a common occurrence. Sometimes their business, their marketplaces, their budgets or their industry, mean that investing in Internet marketing would not be wise. In these circumstances we have to give it to them straight and say don’t do it.

Sometimes we have to say no, we can’t guarantee you a number 1 position on Google. Read the Google guidelines we say. It’s right there in black and white, Google themselves warn you about companies who make these kinds of guarantees. Saying you can do something that Google explicitly say is not impossible should ring alarm bells on its own.

If its gimmicks you want, that’s fine, you go get them. If you want to deal with professionals who know their stuff and who tell you like it is, give us a call.

A Company That Is Non-Technical

Internet marketing doesn’t have to be technical, for you the client.

Yes the Internet is a technical medium and it’s the medium we deal with at Upright Solutions, but you don’t have to deal with it in a technical way. If you want us to explain the technical elements of what we do, no problem, some clients want to be treated that way (see the platinum rule below). But often clients don’t really care about the technical details; they just want to know what they are investing and what probability they have of achieving the desired results.

A Company That Is Easy to Deal With

Without mentioning any names, even some of the biggest most profitable and successful companies are also the most frustrating to deal with. Sometimes simple transactions seem like trying to get blood from a stone.

How hard is it to return someone’s phone call promptly?
How hard is it to allow clients to log into your website, download old invoices, make payments online and upgrade their services?
How hard is it to give clients regularly reviews to ensure they know exactly where their project is and where it is going?

You can expect all these things from Upright Solutions and more, things which don’t really have any place in a formal proposal but to a lot of our clients are the key reasons why they maintain their loyalty to us, no matter how many gimmicks are offered to them by our opposition.

A Company That Applies the Platinum Rule

Most importantly, Chris wanted to create a company that applied the platinum rule.

We’ve all heard of the golden rule:
“Do unto others how they would have them do unto you”

But that didn’t seem fitting to the way business culture was changing. So it was that the platinum rule became one of the core focuses of the way Upright Solutions would operate:
“Do unto others how they want to be done unto”.

For example we have a certain number of clients that we have never met in a face to face setting. That might be normal for something you buy online or ‘off the shelf’ but for a service company like ours, it’s less common.

Whether it’s common or not, certain clients found us online or by recommendation, had their initial consultation done via a web meeting, had their proposal presented to them via a web meeting, had us submit them an order form via our online accounting system and subsequently paid us by PayPal. This might not be a comfortable way you would deal with us but it’s exactly how they want to deal with us. Other clients prefer the more traditional, in person, quarterly review with printed reports, and that’s fine to.
